Is Your Pool Ready for the Warmer Weather?
Spring is here, the days are getting longer and the temperatures are starting to climb. While it might not quite be swimming weather every day yet, your pool is already noticing the change.
As the weather warms up, chlorine is used more quickly, algae becomes more active and your pool’s filtration system needs to work harder. Getting on top of things now can help prevent that first warm weekend from being greeted by a cloudy or green pool!
☀️ Increase Your Pool’s Run Time
If you reduced your filtration hours over winter, now is the time to start increasing them again.
Warmer water encourages algae and bacteria growth, so your pool needs more circulation and filtration as temperatures rise. Your chlorinator also needs enough operating time to produce the chlorine required to keep the water sanitised.
💧 Check Your Chlorine Levels
One of the biggest changes heading into warmer weather is how quickly your pool can use chlorine.
Higher temperatures, stronger sunlight and increased swimming can all increase chlorine demand. A level that was maintaining your pool perfectly through winter may no longer be enough as we move through Spring.
Regular water testing helps catch changes before they turn into bigger problems.
🌿 Keep an Eye on Phosphates
Spring brings more than warmer weather. Pollen, dust, leaves, lawn fertilisers and other organic material can all find their way into your pool.
These can contribute to phosphate levels, which provide a food source for algae. Combined with warmer water and low chlorine, it can create the perfect conditions for algae to take hold.

Leaves and debris sitting in your pool or baskets don't just look untidy – they can affect circulation and increase the demand on your sanitiser.
Now is a great time to:
Empty skimmer and pump baskets
Brush pool walls, steps and corners
Vacuum debris from the pool floor
Clean or backwash the filter as required
Check your water level
Inspect your pool equipment for leaks or unusual noises

Your pump, filter and chlorinator are about to head into their busiest time of year.
Checking everything is operating correctly now gives you time to address small issues before Summer arrives. Pay particular attention to your chlorinator cell, filter pressure, pump operation and any signs of leaking around your equipment.
